Security Doors and Gates The iron security door is a relatively modern addition to residential architecture, due to the need for increased security in large cities. Traditionally, older homes like Victorian terraces and Federation homes never had security doors when they were built. Therefore, placing a security door in front of the original timber/glass door can present a difficult design challenge. The challenge is to make both doors complement each other and the building and for the security door to look architecturally correct when the timber door is both open and closed. Many beautiful, original doorways have been ruined by the use of badly designed security doors. JB Wrought Iron only supplies security doors that are custom designed for the doorway, which often entails providing a number of hand drawn concept sketches in the design process. While adding some cost to the product, good design saves money by not devaluing the property.
