Blacksmithing Ornamental blacksmithing has nearly been lost as a skill in Australia. However, thanks to a revival in the UK and the opportunity for Australians to work there on some of the world’s most prestigious architectural metalwork restoration and conservation projects, it has been saved from extinction here. Techniques of ornamental blacksmiths differ greatly from the modern day trade of metal fabrication. There is an enormous difference in what distinguishes the forged work of a blacksmith from the fabricated work of a metal fabricator. This brochure explains the differences. We have two of the best ornamental blacksmiths in Australia now available to work for us. They have extensive experience as journeymen working with the world’s leading architectural metalwork company on projects in the UK. We are able to import genuine puddled wrought iron from the world’s last remaining wrought iron mill, giving us the ability to take on any heritage metalwork restoration or conservation project and use the original metal, wrought iron. As members of the National Heritage Ironwork Group (NHIG) we have access to some of the world’s leading authorities on wrought ironwork and can confidently take on any restoration or conservation project in Australia.
