Railings
Railings are often part of the property frontage and need to complement the gates and the building, while
providing a boundary to the property. Good design is the starting point for railings. Material sizes, heights, and
ornamental elements need to be carefully considered so the railing is in proportion to the building and is
complementary in style.
Sydney has many fine examples of railings and palisade fences on Victorian terrace houses and around
sandstone public buildings. Traditionally each picket was set into a sandstone plinth using a leaded joint. Cast
iron rail heads or finials were used for decoration and for security.
JB Wrought Iron can repair these railings, or make replica items that are virtually indistinguishable from the
original genuine wrought iron of the 1800s.
